Design and concrete technology challenges in practice
Finding solutions to difficult construction tasks depends first and foremost on the point in time at which a problem is recognized. Complex issues require an immediate exchange of information, knowledge of the currently applicable regulations and knowledge of the interaction, properties and performance of the various building materials. Against the background of these considerations, the contribution discusses real-life problem cases using selected examples. The focus is primarily on the requirements of closely reinforced components, slow-setting components and waterproof structures. All examples show that communication is essential right from the early phase. In addition, in the event of deviations from the construction target, the respective trades should be involved at an early stage in order to ensure a speedy construction process. The complexity of building materials and their performance will continue to increase in the future. This will have a direct impact on the environmental conditions at the time of construction, but also on the intended structural concept. An important principle can be derived from the experience of these examples. This is that all those involved in construction must have a common technical language and a high level of technical understanding. A basic prerequisite for this is regular further training and consolidation of previously acquired knowledge. Another finding is that outsourcing work to subcontractors tends to increase the susceptibility to errors and can also increase costs. A necessary step would be to reintegrate the specialized trades into the companies in order to minimize interface losses.
