Ungemahlener Hüttensand als Ersatz der feinen Gesteinskörnung in Beton
Betoneigenschaften und Umweltverträglichkeit
Zeitlhofer, Helga / Achleitner, Birgit / Peyerl, Martin / Krispel, Stefan
Ungrounded granulated blast furnace slag as a substitute for the fine aggregate in concrete
Due to the conscious conservation of natural resources and the increasing demand, alternative sand sources from industrial by-products will be increasingly used for concrete production in the future. One possibility for this is to replace fine aggregates (natural sand, crushed sand) with ungrounded granulated blast furnace slag. The investigations described in this contribution have shown that both fresh and aged granulated blast furnace slags fully meet the general requirements for aggregates according to the harmonized European Standard EN 12620 “Aggregates for concrete”. In addition, the envi- ronmental compatibility of the ungrounded granulated blast furnace slag was also investigated and confirmed. New findings on the properties of fresh concrete and the durability of hardened concrete with granulated blast furnace slag are also presented. In summary, it can be stated that ungrounded granulated blast furnace slag is not present in the concrete as an inert basic material, but positively influences many properties (durability). This applies in particular to the resistance to freeze-thaw and freeze-thaw de-icing salt, chloride resistance and resistance to an alkali-silica reaction. With regard to the leaching behaviour, it was found that the release of selected elements is reduced by the addition of ungrounded granulated blast furnace slag.
